In this timely eco-thriller, a team of scientists set out to expose environmental crimes in the dangerous wetlands of northern Argentina.
On a mission to expose environmental crimes in the rural areas of Northern Argentina, idealistic scientist Valentina travels to the swamp town of Corrientes to test the local water supply. Relying on remote support from her student Nina, who's analyzing the data from her potentially contaminated samples, Valentina embarks on a quest into the dangerous Iberá wetlands.
Meanwhile, Valentina's husband Diego and his research partner Simon are on an expedition of their own at the South Pole, but their work is interrupted by the news that something's gone wrong for Valentina. As they rush to the wetlands, hoping they are not too late to keep her safe, evidence of an ecological cover-up comes to light — as does the truth about a love triangle that threatens to break the bond of trust between Diego and Simon.
With a host of prestigious films in their collective resumé, show creators Lucía Puenzo and Nicolás Puenzo, and co-director Pablo Fendrik, bring their skills to a uniquely collaborative project. The trio worked in concert, trading off sequences within each episode so that no forty-minute segment belongs to any single director. The experiment yields a strong creative voice, clearly unified by the team's shared goal of shedding light on real-world atrocities while delivering an exciting story of double-crossing and ecological conspiracies. Supported by strong performances and gorgeous camerawork, and filled with intrigue, romance, and timely issues, CROMO is great entertainment that serves a great purpose.
We will be screening episodes 1, 2, and 8 of CROMO, which, despite being non-consecutive, make up one cohesive story arc.
